IPL by Cutera Xeo

Pigment, tone and textural issues come in many forms. Signs of aging and sun damage leave unwanted freckles and age spots and leave the skin’s appearance looking dull, uneven and aged. Color correction with IPL (photofacial) is a highly desired procedure. We provide a customized solution to address individual concerns, regardless of skin type.

Questions?

Read our frequently asked questions below to see if you can find the answer you're looking for!

How does a photofacial (IPL) work?

A photofacial utilizes Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to safely, naturally, and effectively treat pigmentation, diffuse redness, and red spots. It flashes light and will bring pigment to the surface.  It will also reduce blood flow in superficial capillaries thus reducing redness and diminish the appearance of small red vessels.

What areas can be treated?

Clients report excellent results over the entire face, neck, and decollete. IPL may also be used on sunspots and redness on other areas of the body.

Am I a candidate for a photofacial?

You will be a good candidate if you have redness from sun damage, sunspots, uneven pigmentation, or small red vessels. This treatment is not meant to treat heavy wrinkling or resurface.

What does a photofacial feel like?

Clients often describe the treatment as a snapping warm sensation. You will experience a warming of your skin’s surface during the procedure.

What is the photofacial recovery like?

You will have mild redness up to a few hours after your treatment. You can return to your normal activity the same day as long as you utilize sunscreen for outdoor activities. Pigment will often come to the surface and give you a peppered look. This will sluff off to reveal fresh new skin.

How many treatments will I need?

Most clients report the best results after having three to five treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. We would be happy to evaluate you and recommend the perfect number of treatments for you to reach your desired look.

What does a photofacial cost?

The average cost per treatment is $300. This procedure may be added on to other services such as Hydrafacial and laser genesis for a reduced rate. Packages are also available and will reduce the per treatment price.

When will I see results from my photofacial?

Results are noticeable one to five weeks after your treatment and will continue up to sixteen weeks later.

What are the potential risks and side effects of IPL (photofacial)?

Side effects are minimal and include redness and warmth to the skin that resolves in a few hours. IPL can also stimulate cold sores. Please inform us prior to your treatment for proper prophylaxis. If you are prone to develop dark spots, you will need to start a melanin suppressing skin product. On occasion blisters, burns, infections, scabs, scarring, and pigment changes can occur. These are rare if you follow the proper post-care instructions.

How long will my results last?

Follow-up treatments are recommended every 12 months for pigmentation issues. Results will last longer with healthy skin habits such as proper sunscreen, no smoking, and good skincare. Treatments every 6–12 months will help to maintain your long-term results and prevent premature aging.

What is the photofacial down time?

There is virtually no downtime with IPL. You will have redness the same day and we recommend avoiding make up for the day of your treatment. You can return to your normal skincare and make up the following day. Heavier make up may need to be applied when the skin begins to pepper.
